Evolutionary ecology and conservation

This line seeks to study the structure and functioning at the community level, through the use of complex ecological networks, in order to try to understand the complexity of relatively simple island ecosystems. In addition, certain phenomena unique to islands and islets, such as the breadth of the trophic niche and its multiple ecological effects, how species tend to adapt to islands, or non-standard - or simply rare - ecological interactions, are also at the centre of our attention. Furthermore, given the fragility of island ecosystems, we focus part of our research on their conservation. Although in that sense we are researching on several focuses, in particular, we are focused on studying the ecological and evolutionary effects of invasive alien species (both animals and plants), mainly on the island ecosystems of the Macaronesian islands.
