Development of protective agents for crops

In collaboration with two IPNA Agrobiology groups, we are developing crop protection compounds against phytopathogens and abiotic stresses such as drought and salinity. Some of these compounds have already been patented and commercialized (international license). Since November 2019 we have been participating in the MAC-INTERREG APOGEO Project "Precision Agriculture for the Improvement of Wine Production in the Macaronesia" (https://apogeo-mac.org/) led by the ULPGC with the participation of universities, public entities and companies from the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores. The Project deals with the intelligent monitoring of crops using drones equipped with multispectral cameras. These cameras make it possible to detect diseases, nutritional deficiencies, drought or salinity problems, etc. at a very early stage, before they are visible to the naked eye. Thanks to this, they can also be treated very early, increasing the efficiency of the treatment and reducing the amount of compounds needed. The CSIC will be in charge of analysing the samples and developing new phytosanitary products, which are highly efficient and have less environmental impact than the current ones.
