After carrying out my PhD thesis at the then Institute of Organic Natural Products (IPNO/CSIC) on organoselenium chemistry, under the direction of Professor E. Suárez, I worked during the postdoc with Professor K.C. Nicolaou, synthesising anticancer analogues of endiines, and with Professor H. Rapoport on the synthesis of antiviral analogues of Sinefungin.
Since I joined the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA/CSIC), I have focused my interest on the development of effective and environmentally compatible radical-based methodologies for the synthesis of potentially bioactive analogues of natural products.
I am currently responsible for a research line that modifies carbohydrates by photochemical TIH reactions promoted by 1,2-dicarbonyl systems photoexcited exclusively by visible light, in the absence of any catalyst or additive.
