Profile

Antonio Hernández Daranas is a structural chemist with interests in structural biology. Contributions include the publication of an experimental procedure to use Isothermal Titration Calorimetry as a valid technique for studying biologically and synthetically important low affinity systems and the use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) homo- and heteronuclear coupling constants together with Quantum Mechanical calculations to develop improved methodologies for structure determination of small molecules. Applications over the years were focused on the chemical study of marine organisms, in particular dinoflagellates, that resulted in the discovery and structure elucidation of several novel bioactive natural products. The study of protein-ligand interactions by NMR, calorimetry and computational simulations has been another important subject of research. A major focus of his work over recent years has been in developing more efficient structure elucidation methodologies using computational techniques and NMR spectroscopy.

Research Interests

NMR spectroscopy, computational chemistry, natural products chemistry, protein-ligand interactions, calorimetry.
