The CSIC-Canarias and CSIC-Obra Social La Caixa 2019 Awards announce their winners


 

The Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA-CSIC) has announced the winners of the new edition of the CSIC-Canarias Awards for scientific communications. In addition to the prizes aimed at secondary school students, this year there is the University Science Journalism Prize, in collaboration with Obra Social La Caixa, aimed at undergraduate or master students in university centres in the Canary Islands. The purpose of this initiative is to draw the attention of Canarian students to the science carried out in the Islands and to encourage their interest in scientific popularization. 


These are the winners:

  • CSIC-Canarias 2019 Award in the Science in the Canary Islands category An ecological solution, substituting plastic, using resources from the Canary Islands, by IES Mazo (La Palma) student Clara Martín González and supervised by Yuly Mary San Juan Lorenzo.
  • CSIC-Canarias Award 2019 in the category Initiatives in Education and Scientific CommunicationMartín Miranda en Movimiento,from the students of IES Profesor Martín Miranda (Tenerife) Rubén Sahuquillo Redondo and Andrea Venazco, supervised by Iván Morales Torres. 
  • CSIC-Canarias Award 2019 in the category Free subjectCancer and Dioxins, by the students of La Salle San Ildefonso School (Tenerife) Samuel González de la Torre and Patricia Hernández Padrón, supervised by Víctor Rodríguez Borges.
  • CSIC-Obra Social La Caixa 2019 Awards: No, vaccines do not produce autism, by Mbarek El Mchiout, student of the Degree in Nursing at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; and Pharmacogenetics: are we ready for the new medicine?, by María del Pilar Martín Ramos, student of the Degree in Biology at the University of La Laguna.

The presentation of the CSIC-Canarias and CSIC-Obra Social La Caixa 2019 Awards will take place on Tuesday 5th November, on the occasion of the celebration of the Canary Islands Scientific Week.
