The Mayor of La Laguna visits the IPNA-CSIC

On July 31st, Mr. Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, Mayor of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, visited the facilities of the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology of the CSIC, located on the campus of Padre Anchieta.

During this meeting, to which he was accompanied by Margarita Pena Machín, Second Deputy Mayor in the area of Presidency and Planning, and by the recently appointed delegate of Zona Franca Tenerife, Moisés Romero, the mayor visited the centre and was informed of the work being undertaken in the different departments.

The Director of IPNA-CSIC, Manuel Nogales, presented to the newly elected councillor of the municipality the various lines of work leading the activity developed by IPNA researchers in the fields of organic chemistry, agrobiology, ecology and vulcanology.

The visit included a second block in which researchers from the area of biodiversity and ecology offered the government team of the mayor's office their knowledge and experience in areas of vital relevance for the biodiversity and conservation of the natural environment of the municipality, as the protection of endemic species, the recovery of natural habitats and areas of great natural interest and the need to create protocols for action in the presence of invasive exotic species.

The mayor of La Laguna showed special interest in the recommendations that these expert researchers offered in relation to the American termite and all parties showed their willingness to establish an institutional dialogue that can lead to informed, responsible and effective action against such threats
